Happy New Year! It’s a blessing that we are here to see 2020. Seeing 2020 can apply to our vision as well, such as seeing clearly. May this year be a wonderful year for you and family. One that you clearly see the things you need to do to bless your family.
Every new year is special because we have an opportunity for a new start. But I believe 2020 will be “extra” special. God blesses us to do something, to accomplish something, to give something, etc.... In fact my Auntie Jessie says “we are blessed to be a blessing.” One of the major ways we can benefi t our family is to clearly see the importance of getting our affairs in order. And that includes our final affairs. Most of us make every effort to live a good life and to enjoy it. God blesses us, yes but we have a role to play too. We need to pray, plan, prepare, save, etc... Any successful effort, any accomplishment takes work, study, planning, preparation, and follow-through. Our successes just don’t happen, we have to take action. One area to act on that will especially bless your family is in the arena of funeral pre-planning. When you take time to preplan you relieve your family of a fi nancial burden and ease their emotional burden as well. The decisions a family has to make after a loved one passes away can be overwhelming. Will they choose burial or cremation, where to have the service, what casket, who will print the program, who will sing and play, what songs, what about fl owers, limousines, clothing... ? And oh yeah, what about the repast? Who will prepare the food? And so on and so on. Research has shown that 8 out of 10 people believe that pre-planning one’s funeral is a smart thing to do. What do you think? Taking an hour or two out of one day in 2020 to meet with a preneed funeral counselor will accomplish that. I always tell people that it’s not as diffi cult as you think. And you receive a blessing as well; you receive peace of mind. When you pre-plan you receive copies of the arrangements you’ve made. Give an extra copy to a relative that does not live in your home, and tell your immediate family that you have made your arrangements. Start 2020 off right. Clearly see what can benefi t your family and “go ye therefore” and handle your business. That done, live your life to the fullest and enjoy! Gail Valentine Taylor, M.S.W.
