Councilman John Kennedy wins third term. Councilmember Kennedy, a USC and Howard Law School graduate, has been a presence on Pasadena’s City Council for a third term. He has made sure that the Black Community has been represented. He represented the community in placing plaques and statues as well as many other representations. Mr. Kennedy ran opposed for this term but won decisively as he did in past elections. Two other African American Councilmembers, Tyron Hampton, and Felicia Williams join Kennedy.
Unfortunately, Pasadena City College’s only Black Trustee, Berlinda Brown, was unsuccessful in her effort for a new term. She was a Champion for Black Students at P.C.C. and will leave an empty space and a need that will be left open for those Black Students who favor a Black adult to counsel them. Mr Kennedy stated, “It is indeed an honor for me to be able to continue to serve the residents of District 3 on the Pasadena City Council. There is oh so much work that needs to take place to advance justice in our fine city. The voters in District 3 sent a clarifying message that they support and respect my leadership and want me to give even more attention to solving the housing crisis in Pasadena. I answered that call many months before I determined I would run for a third term on the City when I called for the building of 3,000 new units of affordable housing distributed throughout the city with 15% of those units set aside for our “extremely low-income neighbors.” |
