Pasadena Transit will resume collecting fares on April 12th. In response to COVID-19, Pasadena Transit implemented a number of operational procedures and policies in order to provide the safest environment possible for customers and bus operators, including temporarily suspending fare collection which occurs at the front of the bus. Driver barriers have since been installed, thus enabling front door boarding and fare collection to resume.
If a customer had an active 30-day pass that was interrupted by the Stay at Home order issued on March 16, 2020, a new pass will automatically be loaded to their TAP card free of charge. All the customer needs to do is to TAP on a Pasadena Transit bus within 60 days of April 12, and the pass will be loaded to their card.
Other measures put in place to protect riders and bus operators have included:
• Disinfecting high touch surfaces on buses frequently throughout the day;
• Enhanced nightly disinfecting of every bus surface from floor to ceiling;
• Blocked off select seating on buses to encourage social distancing;
• Requiring facial coverings;
• Providing single use masks on the buses for riders;
• Hand sanitizing dispensers on every bus;
• Limiting the number of passengers per bus; and
• A temporary increase in service frequencies on the higher demand routes.
Since March 2020, Pasadena Transit implemented a series of service changes in an effort to deploy as many buses as possible to optimize space for social distancing and ensure continued transit services for essential trips. In an effort to help facilitate social distancing on buses and protect passengers and bus operators, temporary service reallocations were implemented in order to increase the number of buses on the most heavily used routes.
With the economy and other activities gradually reopening, ridership demand has increased. However, measures will remain in place to provide as safe as conditions as possible, which includes encouraging the public to still use transit for essential trips only. Ridership will continue to be monitored with service adjustments and other measures being made in response to evolving conditions.
