On one of the walls in my home is a painting of two old people sitting at a table counting their change. I presume they are spouses. The husband swears there were no pennies. The wife says there were pennies. One of them is lying. My Mother taught us that the road to heaven included following the Ten Commandments. She taught us the Ten Commandments of the Holy Bible when I was incredibly young. One of the Commandments is, “You shall not bear false witness.” In other words, you shall not lie.
Ex-vice president Mike Pence is said to be a religious man, and yet on February 7, 2022, he said, Ex-President Trump is wrong, implying Trump Lied. Both Pence and Trump are a part of the dishonest Republican Party. They go to Church on Sunday, and they want to burn books that tell the truth about Black and Jewish History and make up lies to cover it. As a young man, I have attended a number of revivals, but nowhere have I heard you can lie if it benefits you. The former President of the United States is simply a liar. He is also an intimidator. His so-called Christian followers are so intimidated by him that they go along with him and also lie. One follower of the former president, Kevin McCarthy, initially pronounced that the former president was at fault for the January 6 insurrection. Others, including Republican leader McConnell also initially blamed the former President and named him of being at fault. Days later these same people deny the former president was at fault. They all think they need him for their re-election. They cannot even admit that they talked to the former president on the telephone the day of the Insurrection. American Republicans do not want their children to study what their parents and fore parents did to us, we need to repeat the past and let their children see for themselves what their parents did to American people of color. We need to fill the streets and fill the jails again, especially to demand our rights. I will say it again we need to fill the streets. We should fill the streets with young people as a reminder of what their parents and fore parents did to keep Black people from voting. We should repeat the past by demonstrating with cameras, cell phones and video cameras to record what todays racists are doing to keep Black people from voting. Let the daily papers see what Florida, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, will be doing to keep us from voting. They have devised new tricks to conduct their old hate problem. we must do what our fore parents did to fight the racism and recapture the right to vote. Who killed our right to vote? Every white man who stands up in front of his people and says nothing. Who killed our right to vote? Every white preacher who stands in front of his congregation, talking about Jesus helping others but saying nothing about helping people of color gain the right to vote. Who killed our right to vote? Every white politician who uses the pretense of it interfering with the right to filibuster. Dr. King fought with an army in the 1960’s until he gained the right to vote and yet the fight goes on and on. We must fight the same old fight as was fought in the past. We must form a new army, and march, with posters similar to those of Selma and Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, and march till the voting walls of Georgia, Florida and Pennsylvania cannot stand. No more begging, just marching. My Mother also taught me that liars shall burn in the pit of hell and the truth shall set you free. Ex-vice president Pence must ask God for forgiveness, and he should ask his ecumenical friends to pray for his soul, hopefully before it is too late. |
