A Changing America, “One Block at at Time!” 10/7/21
America is changing in numerous ways. Technology advancements are making the older people irrelevant and the younger people more relevant. This change and other changes are creating fear among older white folks which may explain why Donald Trump is still leading the Republican Party. Older whites are accustomed to a different way of life. Their way says they are a privileged class and are entitled to them can get. America was in part Mexico. Then came the Gold Rush and that triggered a war which was followed by whites stealing the land. They butchered the Mexicans and their Cattle and forced them back to Mexico after years of cheap labor. The whites fed their greed and took what they wanted by force and left the Mexicans holding the proverbial bag. In America, older whites get first shot at the best schools, the best houses and the best jobs. However, with the increasing numbers of Brown and Black people, things have changed. With the browning of America, non-whites became the bosses and supervisors. They were dark-skinned and some could barely speak understandable English. Their populations continue to grow in increasing numbers. Older whites think that violence and malicious policy’s is the answer to these changes. It worked for their parents and their fore parents, so they think it should work for them also. But they don’t only have to deal with blacks and browns; they have a whole group of non-white people coming to America. This gives rise to a changing America in all kinds of ways. Amazon, Fed X, and UPS are replacing the Post Office, delivering mail and goods. Not only are our Post Offices in jeopardy of closing, but our grocery stores and other brick and mortar businesses closing, as well, due to online orders. Private Schools are growing in increasing numbers. Students and staff are mandated different requirements with mandatory masks and social distancing, or not. At one school, white student were punished for carrying signs that said, “Your Dad cuts my lawn”. Because a Brown, Black, Asian or Mexican guest sits at a table next to a ‘Trumper’ in a restaurant, hate rears its ugly head and violence is served with the dinner. One Californian thought he had the great idea of proposing that Mexicans should be forced to speak English only or lose their right to vote. The pushback came when one Mexican Legislator stated that the Mexicans would take California back, one block at a time. It made the whites angry, but time is proving it to be a true. The question arises, “Is it hatred or greed that feeds the bullying and attacks from one group toward the other?” The answer should also include fear. |
