PASADENA, Calif. (April 30, 2010) It's that time of year again. when Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc (AKA) Pasadena Chapter, hosts its annual Fashionetta Scholarship Luncheon with the original DREAMGIRL Sheryl Lee Ralph as this years Mistress of Ceremonies and the hilarious and wisecracking, comedienne Kym Whitley.
Ms. Ralph's body of work spans across decades in the TV, film and music industry. She is a passionate activist and founding director of DIVA (Divinely Inspired Victoriously Anointed), an organization benefiting HIV/AIDS. Ms Ralph captivates audiences with her positive energy, spontaneous humor, and quick wit.
Ms. Whitley is known for her starring roles alongside some of Hollywood's elite. She can be seen is in such box office hits as "Fun with Dick and Jane," Along Came Polly," "The Perfect Man," "Deliver Us From Eva," and "Next Friday."
As Yves Saint Laurent once said, "Fashions fades, style is eternal." A special Pretty in Pink signature drink was created for guests to experience as they celebrate the essence of timeless clothing in a runway show with fashions assembled by the one and only Ashley Sean Thomas who creates looks that will mesmerize and take the audience on a journey in "Remembering the Time."
Ashley's work can be seen daily on the Style Network's Clean House with Niecy Nash. And to date he has worked on national advertising campaigns for Tiffany's and Co., Visa, Target, Canada's Next Top Model, and BMW. His editorial clients include GQ, In Style, W Magazine, WWD's Vanity Fair, to name a few.
Entertainment by none other than DJ Dense - the official DJ of the Los Angeles Clippers and of 93.5 KDAY. Dense is known for his inventive way of combining old school with the new, and has mixed for celebrities superstars such as Ice Cube, Eddie Murphy, Steve Harvey, Tom Cruise (Baby Suri's birthday), Tyra Banks, and Martin Lawrence.
About the Pasadena Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha: Each year the Pasadena Chapter awards over $9,000 in scholarships to local college bound students and in honor of Mother's Day, an outstanding mother in the community is recognized. Proceeds from this year's event, at the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday, will benefit scholarship fund. A vast array of vendors are available for guests to purchase special items for themselves and Mother's Day gifts.
