The Rose Bowl Operating Company (RBOC) is inviting the Pasadena Community into the Rose Bowl to learn first hand about the proposed Rose Bowl Renovation Plans. Mayor Bill Bogaard will welcome people of all ages from across the city to have fun on the Rose Bowl field, play interactive games in the Locker Rooms, tour the Stadium and more.
This landmark event will set the stage for introducing the community to the Rose Bowl Stadium renovation set to begin January 2011 and be completed in time for the 100th Rose Bowl Game in 2014. Attendees will learn about the capital campaign, set to launch in the fall of 2010, in support of the proposed renovations.
In 2006 the RBOC and the City of Pasadena, along with representatives of the primary tenants, Tournament of Roses and UCLA, developed a strategic plan with five primary objectives: improve public safety; enhance fan experience; maintain National Historic Landmark status; develop revenue sources to fund long-term improvements; and enhance facility operations.
The RBOC developed a multi stage Renovation Project. If approved by the Pasadena City Council, construction would begin January 2011. The Project consists of a combination of individual projects to be constructed in sequence over a three year period. The preliminary sequencing plan established for construction avoids shutting down the entire concourse during any given construction period, fulfilling the projects goals without disrupting the extensive Rose Bowl operations.
The Press Box construction will begin 8/2012 and continue through 8/2013. The Rose Bowl Games will bring Pasadenans together in a new way – "playing" together on the Rose Bowl field, finding out about the history and traditions of America's Stadium.
The gates will open at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2010 and the games will begin at Noon and run to approximately 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. There will be great music with the day's games and activities "refereed" by Emcee Robert Baxt.
Coaches and athletes are being invited to stop by and join in the fun, like UCLA, the Galaxy Street Team and players from the "Turkey Tussle." The RBOC invites everyone to go to www.rosebowlstadium.com/games or call 626-577-3100 to RSVP to attend or volunteer.
