On Wednesday, April 28, 2010, the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. sponsored its 2nd Annual Power Networking Event at Red, White and Bluezz jazz bar located at 70 N. Raymond Avenue in Pasadena.
The goal of the event was to create an environment that allowed for African-American businesspersons to engage with one another and to familiarize themselves with other local businesses in hopes of inciting future opportunities to recycle dollars within 'our' own community.
Nearly 60 people attended the event where they participated in speed networking, enjoyed a live jazz duo, and casually mixed and mingled with other African-American entrepreneurs. The attendees were of diverse professional roles, allowing for them to expand their network, and build complimentary relationships.
During the event, Joe and Ruthie Hopkins were honored for their 20 years of commitment and service to the community through The Pasadena Journal. They have given a voice to issues that especially impact African-Americans. The Hopkins were also honored by The Office of Senator Carol Liu, The Office of Assemblyman Anthony Portantino and Pasadena Councilmember Jacque Robinson.
