‘Nothing’ and Making ‘Something’

Black news - Dr. Rosie Milligan reviews author Marvin Harris' book - The Garbage ManMr. Marvin Harris pens his new book," From "The Garbage Man" To "The Entrepreneur." His memoir gives life and true meaning to the old adage, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

The author takes you on a journey from taking throwaways out of the trash cans with his brother and sister to making the most eloquent art and unique sculptures you could ever imagine. Some of their artwork and sculptures have been on exhibit in the front yard of the family home for years and have been one of Los Angeles' spectacular tourist attractions. Their artwork also hangs on the walls of some of the world's most renowned artists, including the famous, well-known photographer Herb Ritts.

In a time where many are experiencing great loss such as: their jobs, their homes, their health insurance, etc., this memoir is a timely read. How does one rise from the 'ashes' is a question asked by too many today? With the downfall of the world's economy, and calamities across the country, many of those who were once at the top of their game are left with 'nothing' and seemingly with 'nowhere' to go and 'nowhere' to turn. This scenario reminds me of the lyrics of the late Ray Charles, "I went to my brother to ask for a loan because I was busted. He said I am sorry there is nothing I can do and I was just thinking about calling on you because I am busted."

I feel strongly that those who read Harris' memoir, even though they may be struggling to overcome hardship, adversity, tragedy and family division as a result of these challenges, will find solace... I truly believe that you, the reader, will discover hope in the most devastating situations. After reading this book, you will carve out for yourself a brand new path from under the rubbish by treading upon grounds that have never been treaded before and you will rise from the 'Quick Sand." It was because of these type challenges that many were propelled to become some of the world's great entrepreneurs.

This book is A-Must Read! If there ever was a time to be creative, that time is now! For further information call Dr. Rosie Milligan, 323-750-3592 or visit www.professionalpublishinghouse.com. Or call Mr. Marvin Harris 323-378-4042.
