Southern California Edison (SCE) served as the title sponsor for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) 28th annual Walk for Education held at Exposition Park recently. Approximately 300 SCE employees, family members and friends participated in the 5K Walk/Run.
In addition to serving as one of the main sponsors, SCE employees raised more than $46,000 in donations to contribute to UNCF. Donation efforts were led by the Networkers, an African-American employee affinity group within SCE that promotes diversity and cultural awareness.
"We are glad to raise money for UNCF and be a part of this event year after year," said Yolanda Hunter, SCE manager, Accounts Payable and president of Networkers.
"The Walk for Education is an event where the entire family can participate and have fun while supporting a great educational cause."
SCE employees also provided participants with information on the utility's many economic assistance programs and tips on how customers can save energy, money and the environment.
An Edison International (NYSE:EIX) company, Southern California Edison is one of the nation's largest electric utilities, serving a population of more than 14 million via 4.9 million customer accounts in a 50,000-square-mile service area within Central, Coastal and Southern California.
