PASADENA, September 14, 2010—Pasadena Federal Credit Union, the official credit union for the Cities of Pasadena, San Gabriel, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena and over 100 local companies and organizations is celebrating it's 75th anniversary by unveiling a 90-square foot mural they commissioned by Art Center College of Design Alumnus Jerry Ortega, titled "Building Pasadena".
The mural will be unveiled by Mayor Bill Bogard, Supervisor Mike Antonovich and other dignitaries at a reception in the lobby of the credit union's branch at 1038 S Fair Oaks Ave in Pasadena at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 23. The Pasadena Police will conduct a flag ceremony and local girl scouts will perform. Additional art will be on display by students and alumni of Art Center College of Design. There will be hors d'oeuvres from local eateries and representatives from both the San Gabriel and Pasadena Chambers of Commerce.
John Schaefer, Director of Marketing and Business Development for the $134 million dollar credit union, says "When it came time to celebrate 75 years of serving our community, we looked at the partnerships we have and tried to find a way to incorporate them into our festivities. We have a great relationship with the Art Center College of Design, so it made sense to highlight the outstanding quality of the work their students produce by asking an alumnus to create a lasting piece of art that enhances our lobby and reinforces our identity. We were truly impressed by the number of high quality applications we received. Jerry Ortega, the winning entrant, has done an outstanding job of conveying just the right message."
"The mural contains iconic landmarks of the area such as the San Gabriel Mountains, the Colorado St Bridge, City Hall and the Rotary Clock as well as images of a Girl Scout, a police officer, a firefighter, librarian and even a dog representing our affiliation with the Pasadena Humane Society" said Ron Berry, CEO.
"I am thrilled that PFCU is supporting the Arts in such a big way and gratified that I have a chance to give back to the Pasadena area which has done so much for me" said Jerry Ortega, the Muralist. Ortega is a 2008 graduate of the Art Center College of Design and received his AA degree from Pasadena City College in 2005. He has been Assistant Art Director for such shows as iCarly, Deal or No Deal and the Academy Awards, among others and has been featured in publications such as Painting the Towns: Murals of California.
