Fourteenth Annual Black Writers On Tour Conference Is Larger Than Ever!

 Angeles. This three-day event will be held on Friday & Saturday, May 1st - 2nd, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 from 12:00 p. m. to 6:00 p.m.-at the Los Angeles Convention Center - 1201 S. Figueroa Street - Los Angeles, California-and it will be more dynamic than ever, with more than 300 Black authors, agents and editors gathering for a three-day event. This year's theme is, "Literacy is Everybody's Business-Who Will Tell Our Story?" 2009 Literary Award Recipients are writers/publishers whose literary works have influenced, impacted, aided in the liberation, and helped to empower Black America-Dr. Claud Anderson, Dr. Na'im Akbar, Dr. Maxine Thompson, Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, Dr. Julia Hare, Dr. Nathan Hare, Ivan Van Sertima, Dick Gregory, Dr. Haki Madhubuti, Dr. Runoko Rashidi, Dr. Kwaku Person-Lynn, Shahrazad Ali, James Clingman, George Subira, and George Fraser. There will be local authors and authors from across the country participating. This year will be the largest ever. In the Obama's spirit of oneness and togetherness, Black Writers on Tour and the Los Angeles Black Business Expo lock hands together to bring to Los Angeles a "Talk Of The Town" unforgettable event. The Los Angeles Black Business Expo has attracted over 40,000 attendees over its three-day event and Black Writers On Tour attendees numbered over 5,000 in its one-day event. Joining together is going to make this an awesome event.

This year's highlight: "Children Writers Showcase-Listen To The Children" and African-American writers age 65 and older in a forum called "Let the Elders Speak." We encourage your youth to come and listen at the feet of these elders as they share wisdom and life lessons.

General Admission is free. There is a free writing class for children ages 10-15. Chat with fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children and Christian writers. Attend the Poetry Jam Competition-WIN CASH! There will be open exhibits and authors signing throughout the day.

The conference has been designed to provide writers with the practical information they need to work in the literary industry. Publishers, as well as agents will attend. Seven (7) writer's workshops will be held throughout the day and will cover a variety of topics from: How To Publish, Promote, and Sell Your Book-How to Write a Best-Selling Novel-a Free Writing Class for Children 10-15 and much more.
