With the recent expansion and escalation of violence committed against citizens who are within the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Pasadena Police Department, many citizens in the Pasadena and Altadena communities have come to view the local police agencies as potentially as dangerous as the criminals they claim to suppress. The police seem to many to be an out of control danger in our communities who do not seem to be held to any account for violations of policy or law.
We are a group of several individuals and organizations who have come together for the purpose of holding the police to a high standard of accountability. We do not do this to protect or defend criminals, but to defend citizens against racial and economic profiling at the hands of "law enforcement". We encourage, protect and defend the constitutional, lawful and respectful equal enforcement of the law to all citizens within our communities.
In Pasadena we will be regularly meeting with the Chief and the City Council to respectfully remind them of Pasadena policies regarding the lawful and respectful comportment of officers in carrying out their duties. These policies range from the carrying and distributing of business cards, respectful speech to the public, even the detained and accused, and the lawful use of force.
In the Altadena area we will be encouraging the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department through the Board of Supervisors and the Grand Jury, to adopt many of the policies adopted by the City of Pasadena and the City of Los Angeles regarding comportment of officers, carrying and distribution of business cards, respectful and lawful dealings with the public.
We will work with many existing organizations to uphold the rights of our local citizens and to improve the Constitutional quality of policing in unincorporated Los Angeles County.
