Money for College

African American news from Pasadena - scholarship workshopOn Saturday, October 23 from 8:30 p.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is sponsoring its Annual Scholarship Workshop in the Cafeteria at Pasadena High School located at 2925 Sierra Madre Blvd, Pasadena, CA. This workshop is geared towards 9th-12th grade students in the Pasadena/San Gabriel communities. The workshop helps students learn what they need to do throughout their high school career in order to WIN Scholarship $. Attendance is a must for any child or parent who wants to learn the keys to winning scholarship money for a much needed education.

The economy is tough, but even more concerning is the number of people who don't qualify for jobs that are available due to lack of skill set. Unemployment is around 15% for people who don't have a post high school education. People without a higher education degree are the most likely to be in a category labeled as the working poor. In order to improve your probability of getting ahead in life and being competitive in the job market, you MUST get an education!

The problem for many is the skyrocketing cost of this education, and the debt that many are left with once they graduate. While the debt is a concern, the lifelong income limitations that one is faced with when they don't get a higher education is of greater problem. As previously stated, you MUST get a higher education.

This workshop will focus on Where to Find Scholarship Monies and How to Win. We will teach you how to fill out the applications, write compelling essays, and do interviews that hit the mark. We'll provide information on careers of the future, and give you the opportunity to ask questions. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Tony Ross, the Vice President of Student Affairs at Cal State Los Angeles, and the guest speaker will be, Alicia Green, a college student who has a proven track record of winning scholarships to put herself through college.

This workshop is a Don't Miss for any high school student! RSVPs are requested, but not required to make sure we have enough materials for all that attend. Adults are welcome.
