Free Tax Preparation Services Available

On Wednesday, February 22 from 2 to 7 p.m., the Office of California State Controller John Chiang in partnership with the City of Pasadena, District 1 Councilmember Jacque Robinson and Women at Work will provide free federal and state income tax preparation assistance for low- and moderate-income (generally $40,000 and below) families and individuals at the La Pintoresca Library, 1355 N. Raymond Avenue.

Certified volunteers will help prepare basic tax returns. Volunteers will help taxpayers determine if they are eligible for tax credits.

Call (626) 796-6870, ext. 0) to set up an appointment. Please bring the following items with you to have your tax return prepared:

  • Proof of identification
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and dependents and/or a Social Security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration. If you are not eligible to get a Social Security number you may need an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
  • Current year's tax package if you received one
  • Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G,1099-R, from all employers
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks – Forms 1099
  • A copy of last year's Federal and State returns if available
  • Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit
  • Total paid for day care provider and the day care provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social security number or the provider's business employer identification number)
  • Landlord's address and phone number, if you rent.

To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required form.
