Join the Summer Reading Club This Year at the Pasadena Library

Starting this month kids from toddlers to teens can join the popular Summer Reading Club at Central Library or any of the nine Pasadena Public Library branches. Summer Reading Club encourages students to read for pleasure and helps reluctant readers along, then rewards them for their efforts.

Kids, sixth grade and younger, will receive a book bag and a reading record to keep track of the books they read or have read to them during the summer. They will be awarded a prize each week when they visit the library and share what books they've read or listened to that week. In keeping with this year's Summer Reading Club theme for kids, Be Creative @ Your Library, there will be a variety of entertaining shows to spark kids creativity all summer long. In July they'll be dazzled by the magical performance of "Illusions by Allen" and amused by the "Tales and Tunes" series featuring the Brian Waite Band, Brother Yusef and storytellers Jim Cogan, Diane Ferlatte and the Swazzle Puppets. To top it off the Pacific Animal Productions will display creative critters in August!

The Summer Reading Club for kids is sponsored by the Friends of the Pasadena Public Library and South State Cooperative Library System.

Express Yourself @ Your Library, the Summer Reading Club for teens, will run from June to August. Similar to the Summer Reading Club for kids teens read a book, fill out a prize drawing slip for each book they have read and place it in the decorated box at any Pasadena Public Library site. Drawings for prizes with teen appeal are held each week.

Special programs for teens will be offered throughout the summer. These include the very popular Try It @ Your Library Teen Camps, which will be held in July and August. The camps cover a variety of topics including culinary arts, photography, arts and crafts, design, drawing, comic book illustration, Magna drawing, dance, film, magic, puppetry, and robotics. These fill up quickly so register today! For more information on the Teen Summer Reading Club go to www.PasadenaPublicLibrary.net/libraryteens.
