Most folks are surprised to discover that it is quite easy to over exercise and produce counterproductive results. Some commonly known consequences of over exercising include muscle soreness and chronic fatigue. But did you know that over exercising can possibly make you gain fat? After any workout routine the muscles need to replace both proteins and energy stores (nutrients) loss during a workout for muscles to make a full recovery. Appropriate recovery is done through proper diet and ample rest; and if muscles are not given enough time to recover fully before another similar workout is repeated, then the muscles progressively become smaller. Smaller muscles equal a lowered metabolism, or a diminished capacity for the body to burn fat. All things remaining equal (you maintain the same amount of calorie intake and over exercise habit) body fat could actually increase.
One of the keys to avoiding this mistake is simply following God's principled pattern for creation in our exercise routine. In the scripture which opens this article, God the Father illustrates a process that we can follow when exercising in order that we maximize calorie and fat burning potential. Note that after the Lord finished his "celestial body building project", he rested, so confident in His workmanship that He blessed it and left it to "be fruitful and multiply".
Science and medical research has once again confirmed the believers confidence in intelligent design - all we need do is commit to a reasonable level of consistent bodily exercise, which includes a sufficient amount of rest, and the good Lords principled design by which our physical bodies - His Temples - operate (in the same self-sufficient and self-balancing way as that of His universe) will automatically do the "rest" - pun intended!
