"Chelsea J" as she prefers to be called, sang a cover of Corrine Bailey Rae's Like A Star to win First Place for this year's Parks and Recreation sponsored Pasadena Idol Contest. She delivered a sound and stage presence well beyond her years.
Chelsea, 16, is a member of Pasadena's historical Friendship Baptist Church where she sings in the youth choir.
While singing is a passion for Chelsea, so is the enrichment and encouragement for young girls. She founded the P.R.E.T.T.Y. Campaign in 2011. It's a monthly newsletter and blog to help build self-esteem in young girls who have been bullied or felt left out socially.
The monthly newsletter and blog's premise being, "By Building Confidence in Others, You Build Confidence in Yourself." P.R.E.T.T.Y. is short for "Positive, Radiant, Expressive, Timeless, Totally, You-nique."
Chelsea J later expanded her borders and began ministering at local churches and social events throughout the Dallas Texas and Oklahoma area from which she hails.
She is home schooled and enjoys spending time with her sister, Brittany, a pre-med student at Pepperdine University in Malibu.
Chelsea J will be working on producing two (2) singles and music videos as well as a magazine article and performing in and around the Pasadena area for the next 12 months as part of her award package.
