Message From the Chief April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing

To Community Members and Department Personnel:

The Pasadena Police Department joins the many local, state and federal officials offering our concerns and condolences to the victims of the bombing incident at the Boston Marathon today.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. (12:00 PDT) on April 15, 2013, witnesses reported two explosions near the Boston Marathon finish line. Media sources report at least two fatalities and numerous injuries, including amputations and severe burns. In conjunction with several federal agencies, Boston Police are actively investigating the incident. Immediately following the news, the Pasadena Police Department reached out to the Los Angeles Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC), Joint Terrorist Task Force (JTTF), and the FBI regarding terrorist threats to Pasadena. There are no known direct threats involving our community at this point in time; however, the Pasadena Police Department has increased patrols around our high value targets.

The Boston Incident is a good reminder to remain vigilant and aware of your environment. If you see something suspicious, please call at: 626-744-4241 (See Something; Say Something). Of course if the active warrants an emergency response, please call 9-1-1.

The Pasadena Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Unit will remain in touch with the JRIC, federal agencies, and the State Threat Assessment Center to ensure we have the most contemporary information.

For now, please take a moment to hold the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing in your prayers and positive thoughts.

Phillip L. Sanchez, Chief of Police
Pasadena Police Department
