Are Outsiders Taking Our Youth Facilities From Our Children?
From the late sixties through nineties, traditional youth organizations dedicated themselves to the theme of diversity in board membership staffing and program recruitment and involvement. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Pasadena is a prime example. They seem to have set a pattern of denying involvement for Black Board membership, Black staffing and programs for Black youth at a time when our youth need valid alternatives to the streets.
The facilities for youth programs in Northwest Pasadena are now being used for White youth who don't live in the community, while Black youth are standing outside looking in. Basketball programs, soccer, computer labs and volleyball leagues are being developed, but not for African American youth. It's time for change. Go to the local youth organization facility and enroll your child, now ! If there are problems contact the Journal or call the United Way to find out why they have abandoned Black youth after years of commitment.
The schools have failed our children and the youth organizations have failed our children. This means war! It's time to suit up and go after change in the schools, the youth organizations, churches and anyone that gets money by professing to serve our youth.
The Journal will address this serious problem over the next few weeks. Call and tell us your experience with youth organizations.
