Brother Andrew Spears was a life long Pasadenan. He was born to Virginia and Andrew Spears II at the Women's Hospital (Huntington Memorial Hospital), on February 3, 1945 and was the second of three children.
He attended John Muir High School where, along with being an academic, he was a three year lettermen in both track and football. He graduated with the class of 1962. While attending Pasadena City College, Andrew was actively involved in many of the social issues and organizations of the time, including the BSU, CASE and the Black Panther Party. His interest in working with community groups and projects continued.
Recently, he was working with the Sankofa Youth Organization Rites of Passage Program, the Ray Boudreaux Justice Committee and several programs at the Jackie Robinson Community Center. An alumnus of Muir High, he was a long time supporter and regular attendee at the schools programs and athletic events. Andrew passed away in Las Vegas NV on August 26, 2009.
Andrew is survived by Vicki Cummings who he married in 1975, their three children, Tene Mariama Muhammad, Chaka Kai Spears and John Warren Spears. He also leaves cherished memories with sisters Sharon Bedney and Virginia Sims; five grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, a large extended family and countless friends and love ones.
For those fortunate enough to have Andrew touch their lives, his presence will be deeply missed, leaving a void that is not easily filled.
