Thank you so much for the great article from the August 27th issue on the Neighborhood Enhancement Mural Program. I was delighted that you covered the community meeting where Luis Ituarte's mural designs were reviewed by the community-thanks also for the front page coverage and image.
The creation of this program was rooted in the Cultural Nexus Art Master Plan approved several years ago by Council. The program is intended to facilitate the creation and placement of art in neighborhoods where it is not being generated by eligible development according to the Percent-For-Art ordinance.
By funding two artists in the pilot program this year, the Art & Cultural Commission has initiated a program the supports local artist and their surrounding communities. Not intended to replace the impact of a Percent-for-Art Program, the mural program provides opportunities to visually enhance the community by using a traditional art form.
As you know, the Northwest Commission, the PACs and the Art & Cultural Commission have all recommended to Council the removal of the current public art exemption for development in Northwest Pasadena. The expansion of public art throughout the City and your article allows us to reach a broader audience.
Thank you again for the coverage and support.
