Humble and excited could best describe the 25 honorees at the 10th Annual Women in Business luncheon held on October 10, 2009. Amidst the smiles, hugs and kisses, was a festive atmosphere. Each of the honorees where chosen because of their professional credentials and community achievements.
"I felt a sense of sisterhood and belonging to this stronger community of businesswomen who are making a difference," said Celestine McFearn Walker, Managing Director of Neighbors Acting Together Helping (NATHA). Walker's organization is a Pasadena non-profit.
Victoria Williams, Accountant and President of Queen Bee Enterprise, Pasadena, was also enthusiastic about being honored. "I am involved in the community and I enjoy giving back to the community.
The legislative update and awards luncheon was sponsored by Carol Liu, State Senator 21st District; Paul Krekorian, Assemblyman 43rd District; and Anthony Portantino, Assemblyman 44th District.
"This is our way of thanking these outstanding women and recognizing them," said State Senator Lui. "This is also an opportunity for women to network, share experiences, and grow and appreciate one another.
With a captive audience of about 450 each of the three legislators took the opportunity to provide updates on the current issues and crisis facing the state. However, the spirits of the participants were never dampened by any reminders of a state budget predicament or other eminent crisis.
"This is mind-boggling. I am so honored" said Patricia Duff Tucker, co-founder of OnWeb Television. "God is my inspiration. My goal as a woman in business is to inspire other women; especially our women."
