AKA Health Summit . . . The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) & You

Mary Donnelly Crocker, Young & Healthy Executive Director, to Discuss Facts, Myths at Health Summit

On Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Sixth Annual Health Summit will be held at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Blvd, Pasadena, CA. The event is focused on providing FREE tests and screenings for a variety of diseases that impact our community. The event also provides information on health related items that we all need to know in order to reduce the probability of getting diseases that historically devastate our communities.

As a part of providing information, the guest speaker's topic this year is, "The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) & You." Much has been and is being said about the Affordable Care Act. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation in the market so the goal of Mary Donnelly Crocker, Executive Director with Young & Healthy, is to lay out the facts and dispel the myths.

Obamacare includes numerous provisions to keep health care costs low, promote prevention, and hold insurance companies accountable. Some aspects of this program have already been implemented for over 250 million people that already have insurance. Some of these benefits being enjoyed are parents being able to keep their children on their health care coverage up to 26 years old, preventive care that includes mammograms are available free of charge, and people received rebate checks from their insurance companies earlier this year because the insurance company spent too much premium money on administrative costs or CEO bonuses.

The next phase of Obamacare will go into effect in 2014 with enrollment starting on October 1, 2013. The next phase will benefit over 30 million people that currently don't have insurance by making quality, affordable, private health insurance plans available to everyone. People with pre-existing conditions will have more health coverage security, tax credits for families and small businesses will be available and much more. The goal of our knowledgeable guest speaker is to provide factual information and answer questions that you may have on "Obamacare & You." She will be speaking from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Jackie Robinson Center.

Health Summit 2013 is focused on bringing FREE testing and preventative screenings into the community. Some of the FREE services to be offered are HIV Tests, Dental Screenings, Kidney Disease Screenings, Eye Exams, Hearing Tests and much more.
