Abraham Lincoln had several defeats and failures during his lifetime.

He failed in business in 1831.

He had a nervous breakdown in 1836.

He ran for Congress in 1843 and was defeated.

He ran for the Senate in 1855 and lost.

He ran for Vice President in 1856 and lost.

But Abraham Lincoln persevered. He never gave up.

This president, also known as Honest Abe, was elected the 16th President of the United States in 1860.
