Local Business and Civic Leaders Will Soon Be Reporting to Pasadena Unified Principals' Offices

Local business and civic leaders will be spending the day in the principal's office of Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) schools on Thursday, October 24 for the eighth annual "Principal for a Day" program. Sponsored by Merrill Lynch and coordinated by the Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF), the program matches the talent and expertise of local community members with a school principal.

Since 2007, more than 250 community leaders have participated in the Pasadena Unified Principal for a Day program. This year with the adoption of the School/City/Community Workplan the program has drawn even more interest. Participants spend a morning on campus shadowing a PUSD school principal, giving them a rare and valuable perspective of running a public school.

"Principal for a Day is another example of the city of Pasadena and the local community working together to become more involved in PUSD schools and demonstrating the spirit of our community supporting its schools" said PUSD Superintendent Jon R. Gundry.

This will mark the eighth year Merrill Lynch has sponsored the Pasadena program. "Merrill Lynch is proud to sponsor this local program that helps to bridge public and private sectors to strengthen and provide valuable resources for local public schools." said Merrill Lynch Director Craig Colbath.

After their day on campus, the 2013 class of "Principal for a Day" graduates will gather for a luncheon and meet other principals and community leaders at Brookside Golf Club to share their experiences. The Rev. Ed Bacon, the Rector of All Saints Church since 1995, will serve as this year's keynote speaker.
