Today, Gussie Louise Toliver (shown left) is officially celebrated as a Centenarian, reaching an important milestone of life - 100 years. With commendations from the President of the United States, Barack Obama, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Congressman Adam B. Schiff, Mayor of Pasadena, Bill Bogaard, Mayor Larry Guidi of Hawthorne, California and a birthday card from Billy Graham Ministries, an impressive gala was held in her honor in the Grand Ballroom aboard the Historic RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.
The event was highlighted by a number of special tributes - a Video Tribute to Gussie by her Grandson Demar Derozan of the Toronto Raptors (NBA) who could not be in attendance, Video Playback of Channel 4 Birthday Tribute by Special Correspondent Willard Scott, Dance and Song Presentations by various family members, and capped off with a riveting show by Comedian Prentice Dabney.
"When it comes to Mother, there is no doubt in my mind but, that Mom truly walks in the favor of God, because the atmosphere was filled with His Presence throughout the event. I believe the entire family, and their friends, put their best foot forward to truly make this a blessed and extraordinary event that will never be forgotten." said Pastor, Leroy Toliver, only son of Gussie Toliver.
"It was a sincere pleasure to be a part of this unique celebration, seeing many family members come together from all parts of the United States, to Honor Grandma in this fashion. It was truly an awesome and God-inspired event!" added Valerie Ann Toliver, Granddaughter, Owner of Kreative Kutz Barber Shop in Altadena, California.
