Join with the voices of history...
Join us as official recorders of history in congratulating The Journal's 20th Anniversary honorees, Metropolitan Baptist Church and Woods Valentine Mortuary. They are The Journal's longest running advertisers. They made a decision to support this paper with our first publication, in November, 1989, on our promise to be a voice for the African American community.
We extend our heartfelt "Congratulations" to Metropolitan Baptist Church and to Woods Valentine Mortuary for your continued, faithful support to The Journal for the past 20 years.
We encourage our readers to add their congratulations to these two advertisers by sending congratulatory messages to The Journal for publication in our upcoming Journal Special Anniversary Edition. The Journal 20th Anniversary Special Edition will be published on November 19, 2009. (The deadline in November 12, 2009.)
In addition to becoming a keepsake, funds from the Special Edition will be used toward our Intern Program. Over the years the Journal has provided intern opportunities for high school students to gain exposure and experience in writing, reporting, editing, layout, and general operation of a newspaper. We continue this valuable experience for our youth, in spite of the slowing down of the economy. Our profiling of positive role models and achievers also helps to encourage young people.
Your congratulatory messages demonstrate your appreciation for our services to the community and for our special projects such as the Pasadena Black Expos, Marketplaces and Gospel/Jazz Concert.
Advertisements help keep this paper serving as the voice for the community as well as provide opportunities for our youth through our free weekly publication.
With gratitudeJoe and Ruthie Hopkins
