Two exemplary products of the Pasadena/Altadena community will return home on Saturday, January 11, to offer words of inspiration at a pair of uplifting, back-to-back events.

Los Angeles Clippers center Ryan Hollins, a graduate of Muir High School and Washington Middle School, will offer the keynote address at the Pasadena Mentoring Partners' Third Annual Breakfast, which is set for 8:30 a.m. at Lake Avenue Church. Hollins will speak on the power that adults possess to motivate at-risk youth by providing guidance and opportunity as mentors. (For more information, contact Lisa Wilson at the Flintridge Center, (626) 449-0839.)

UC Berkeley Student Senator Destiny Iwuoma, another Muir graduate and former NAACP youth leader, will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as the spotlight speaker at "Rekindling the Light of Peace," the Pasadena Human Relations Commission's annual King Week kickoff event, set for 10:00 a.m. inside the City Council Chambers at Pasadena City Hall.

Among other matters, Iwuoma is expected to illuminate the link between Dr. King's struggle for racial and economic justice and contemporary issues surrounding education and the prison industrial complex. (For more information contact the Pasadena Human Relations Commission (626) 744-4234.)
