Leave Your Hypocritical Side Back in 2013

Black news from Pasadena - Religion - New Years resolutions and relationshipsThere are many temporal New Year Resolutions that are nonessential to a good relationship. Among them are resolutions like: changing your hairstyle; volunteering more often; paying tithes more faithfully at church, etc. Such unilateral vows doesn't or shouldn't effect or offend your spouse whether the goal is achieved or not. However there are other resolutions that would negatively effect a spouse, should such a vow is broken.

One of the most common New Year Resolutions is to stop being so critical. Breaking this vow is major violations in a relationship because usually a very critical person is usually also hypocritical. For example: a wife criticizes about her husband lack of tidiness with his socks and clothes on the floor; however, she leaves the kitchen in a mess after she cooks; or a husband criticizing his wife obsession with reality TV shows, yet he tries to watch every football game on television and tear up the room while doing so. There are many other examples, such as, he/she does too much emotional spending to relieve their stress, which he/she is criticized for while the other wastes money by over paying for household utilities via using an excessive amount of electricity and/or water, or even wasting money at fast food drive throughs.

Many times we tend to and criticize our spouse who does something which we disapprove; however, we must learn that no person is without their personal flaws. As long as the flaw does not physically and negatively harm us, we should be helping one another with love and not badgering. The Bible puts it like this, Matthew 7:5 - "And why behold thou the mote is in thy brother's eye but perceive not the beam that is in thine own eye."
