High School Seniors Deadline for New PWP Scholarship

Black news from Pasadena - Education - PWP Scholarship deadlinePasadena, CA - Announcing an investment in the City's youth, Pasadena's Water and Power Department (PWP), www.PWPWeb.com, is offering two new college scholarships to Pasadena high school seniors who can devise creative new ways to promote water conservation and renewable energy.

The new PWP Educational Scholarships are open to all Pasadena Unified School District high school seniors planning to attend college. Completed applications must be submitted by midnight, April 18, 2014 by email only to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

"We meet so many bright young students each year during community events and field trips, and they're always so willing to share their excitement and ideas," PWP General Manager Phyllis E. Currie said. "This is our way of harnessing that creativity for the good of the community while preparing the next generation for higher education and the workforce."

This is the first time these scholarships will be awarded. PWP officials hope to make this an annual program. First Place will earn $5,000 and Second Place will earn $1,000. Students must provide proof of acceptance for the 2014-15 school year to any accredited two-year or four-year college or university.

Applicants must write a statement of 300 words to 500 words answering one of these questions:

  • Water scarcity is a major issue and topic of concern. How can Pasadena Water and Power do a better job of communicating the importance of water conservation to young adults?

OR

  • Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power are going to play an important role in our future. What type of energy source do you feel is best for our environment?

Awardees will be notified by email by April 28, 2014. Scholarship winners will be presented with their awards at Pasadena's annual Earth and Arts Festival on May 3, 2014 at Memorial Park.

Applicants can utilize computers and Internet resources for free at the Pasadena Public Library if they do not have access at home or school.
