Let God Change Your Name!

African American news from Pasadena"And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

"I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving."
(Genesis 32:28)

He thought it was a fortune!
$200,000 was his portion!

What a day for a heist!
They told him to do it and he didn't think twice!

Here he lay on his bunk.
A tipster told the police after he got drunk.
He couldn't believe it, and called the dude a punk!

Ten - 15 years is what he got-the whole deal stunk!
His mama cried and his girlfriend screamed, "What made you go for such a crazy scheme?"

They watched him get handcuffed and take him out.
His little daughter didn't know what it was all about.

Was that little money worth a life of shame?
Was it worth the lost of time with his family and all the pain?

What did he really gain?  Twenty minutes of fame?
I'm telling you - stealing is really insane!

Dear Pastor Glovioell,

The dream lasted all night - it was like I was in a fight!
My first night in the pen.

The Spirit of God came to me then.
I asked God to forgive me fast!  I knew, inside this place; I couldn't last!

He said, "Because I gave in, and had turned from my sin; a new life, I could begin."
It was quite encouraging!

I was different from when I came in!
I was a new person, and my name was changed, as Christ did a new work within.

I began reading my Bible and Praying.
I said to myself, "In this place, I won't be staying!"

God gave me a pass-they okayed an early release for me, one day, real fast.
New grace was given to me; My God was allowing!

I was to be set free from prison due to overcrowding!
Pastor Glovioell, I'm in church now, and I see.

I had believed that 'get rich quick' stuff I had seen on TV!

Nowadays, I give talks in the church to our Youth Groups on retreats-I tell them my story and ask them to trust God for their future; I tell them to study and believe!

Foolish but Forgiven

Dear Foolish but Forgiven,

I praise God for you and how you have striven!

Thanks for sharing your story with us, and the youth that you've been given.

"But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God:  for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day." (Deuteronomy 8:18)
