Los Angeles, CA (BlackNews.com) -- On Saturday, June 21th, 2014, Educating Young Minds celebrated its 16th Annual Scholarship Awards Gala at the LAX Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles, California at 6:00 pm. The red-carpet scholarship awards gala was supported by Toyota, City National Bank, US Bank, SCE, Union Bank, Los Angeles Scholars Investment Fund, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Councilman & former California Senator Curren Price, and many others. The Scholarship Awards ceremony was directed and produced by film, television & theatre star Obba Babatunde.
Educating Young Minds had a host of celebrity participation & political supporters. The red carpet event was attended by celebrity actress Imani Hakim, child star of 'Everybody Hates Chris', Los Angeles County Supervisor, Mark Ridley-Thomas, District 9 Councilman & former California Senator Curren Price, JL Armstrong of Toyota and Julius Robinson, Executive Vice President and Carl Ballton from Union Bank.
The EYM Alumni and high school seniors were saluted at the 2014 gala with scholarships between $10,000 - $13,000. The high school seniors were: Mahlet Tilahun, Noe Suarez Rosas, Mahir Abdulhafiz, Beimnet Fekadu, Paris Patterson, Agere Teshale, Sebrin Yousef, & Morgan Barnes. EYM Alumni attends and have graduated from prestigious institutions such as Cornell, UC Berkeley, Spelman, USC, UCLA, Morehouse, Columbia, George Washington University and many others. More than 92% of EYM's Alumni have graduated from four year collegiate institutions.
