Southern California Edison Joins Black College Expo . . .

. . . in Helping Over 250,000 Students with College, Careers and Beyond

The Black College Expo returns to Los Angeles for its eleventh year.  The Expo will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, California 90015.  This one-day event will include seminars, workshops, entertainment, and a $10,000 scholarship presentation by our local title sponsor, Southern California Edison (SCE) to a deserving high school senior. SCE representatives and other companies will also be actively recruiting college students for paid internships and will be taking resumes on the spot. There will also be career opportunities for recent graduates.

“Southern California Edison is committed to supporting effective educational programs that nurture promising students. The Black College Expo consistently serves to encourage and support the next generation of bright young people who have the potential to become tomorrow’s innovative thinkers and leaders,” said Lisa Cagnolatti, SCE’s Vice President, Business Customer Division.

The Black College Expo’s mission is to share resources with students to help them get into college, learn about internships and today’s hot careers.  One of the featured seminars will be “How to find MONEY for College.” Our national title sponsor, US Navy will share an opportunity for college students to receive up to $4,300 a month for college.  Students will get the chance to meet with close to 100 colleges, including 40+ historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), along with other colleges. Some schools will be accepting students and giving away scholarships on the spot.

In addition to Los Angeles expo, the Black College Expo 2010 tour will be held in the following cities: Oakland (Jan. 30), Atlanta (Feb. 27), also in the Fall in New York and DC/Maryland.

“I am so excited to celebrate 10 years of helping over 250,000 students get into college as well as giveaway over $500,000 in scholarships. We are equally excited to have a collaborative partner like Southern California Edison to continue to help thousands of students get to college, careers and beyond,” says founder Theresa Price.

This year’s local title sponsor, Southern California Edison will join BCE’s other local sponsors: CVS/pharmacy, Wells Fargo, Sempra Energy Utilities companies (The Gas Co and SDG&E), Union Bank of California and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) African American Outreach Initiative.  We are also proud to have as our national title sponsors, US Navy along with national sponsors: KFC (KFC Colonel Scholars & KFC Pride 360), NAACP Youth & College (100 Remix), Internal Revenue Service, Upscale Magazine and Black Enterprise.
