Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Founders Day Celebration

African American news from Pasadena - Founders Day of Southern CaliforniaThe 97th Founders Day of Southern California was held January 22 and 23 at the Pasadena Sheraton Hotel and the Convention Center, and hosted by the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter. The lovely and well-planned event was co-chaired by Juanita West-Tillman and Valerie Wardlaw.  Friday was the public reception and celebration where Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was recognized by officials, community organizations, and other Greek organizations as an organization that makes a difference in the community.

African American news from Pasadena - Founders Day CelebrationA tribute was made to the sorority's 17th national president, Mona Bailey who was presented a Synthia St. James print by the artist. Saxophonist Ron Brown gave tribute with two selections. Greetings were given by the Far West Regional Director, Dr. LaVerne Gray Davis and Krystle Evans, Far West Regional Representative. The evening was filled with greetings and welcomes from Gwendolyn McMullins, Pasadena Alumnae Chapter president, Mayor Bill Bogaard, City Council Woman, Jacqueline Robinson, Pasadena Unified School District Board Member, Renatta Cooper, Field Representative, William Syms from the office of Congressman Adam Schiff, Senator Carol Liu, 21st District and Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, 44th District. Greetings were also brought from Pasadena City College, Vice President, Dr. Jacqueline Jacobs, Pasadena NAACP, Mr. Joe Brown, president; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma brought greetings.

African American news from Pasadena - 97th Founders Day CelebrationDeltas attending the weekend festivities were asked to donate one pair of pajamas to be given to children served by PUSD Families in Transition Program. This program was selected as the Community Service Project for Founders Day. A presentation was made to representatives of the school district attending the Friday Reception, Alice Petrossian, Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Meg Abrahamson, Director of Student Support and School Board member Renatta Cooper. By the end of the weekend, some 300 pairs of pajamas were collected and given to the school district.
