Altadena ARTBreak 2010 Community Arts Festival organizers are seeking studentartists, vendors (food/arts and crafts/merchandise) and volunteers to take part in the day-long event which will be held at Farnsworth Park on Saturday, June 12, 2010, beginning at 8 a.m.
ARTBreak was developed by the Altadena Arts Council (TAAC) to "celebrate the talent and creativity of our area's children and youth", according to Mary Ann Stevenson, Executive Director. She sees the event as "an excellent opportunity to highlight the important role that the arts can play in transforming their attitudes and appreciation of their own talents and capabilities." Arts and crafts activities, workshops, fine arts projects and exhibits, demonstrations, hands-on projects for young people and their families, "cool high-school jazz" and classical music concerts and performances, a 3-kilometer run for the arts, awards and prizes as well as a variety of foods and refreshments are all on the day's schedule. This will be the fourth year the event has been held and the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up as co-sponsor.
Student-artists (3rd grade thru 12th grade), attending local public or private schools can participate individually or as part of their school's visual arts/performing arts programs. ARTBreak "Exhibitor/Performer Applications" are available online at www.altadenaartscouncil.org
ARTBreak organizers are also inviting members of the community to become a part of the event as vendors and as event volunteers (especially needed are individuals who are interested in conducting workshops, but everyone interested in volunteering to support the event is encouraged to apply). Applications are also available online or by calling TAAC at (626) 797-5798/Farnsworth Park at (626) 798-6335).
