Palm Sunday Peace Parade

One week after a local peace march addressed gang violence in Pasadena, Pasadena area residents will again take to the streets to march for peace in the Palm Sunday Peace Parade, an annual liturgical march by churches in the area.

While this parade focuses on calling attention to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, marchers will also be reminded this year that international violence and local violence are connected. "A society that supports the largest and most powerful military in the world, and uses it to gain control over economic resources throughout the world, should expect to experience violence among its youth," explained Bert Newton, the lead organizer of the peace parade, "the spirituality of violence has a boomerang effect."

The march will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 570 E. Orange Grove Blvd.
