Waste Management of San Gabriel Valley reminds customers of Labor Day holiday schedule

Trash and recycling services delayed one day in observance of Labor Day

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, CALIF. — Aug. 26, 2014 – Waste Management of San Gabriel Valley's curbside residential trash and recycling and commercial pick-up schedule will be delayed by one day throughout the week of Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day. In addition, all Waste Management operations will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, with normal operations resuming on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Customers in the following updated cities list should place their carts out for pick-up one day later than usual, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Saturday, Sept. 6:



Year Three for the UC / HBCU Summer Institute a Success

Pasadena Journal Helped Initiate the Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders


Fifty four undergraduate students from across the US just completed year three of the Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders (SIEML) on the campus of the University of California Davis. The SIEML is a unique partnership between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HIS's) and the University of California. The SIEML was initiated by former State Assemblymember Anthony Portantino and Journal Publisher Joe Hopkins as a way to create academic alliances between undergraduate HBCU & HIS students and the University of California Business Schools in general and student articulation into MBA programs specifically.



Friends in Deed Celebrates 120 Years

Friends In Deed is throwing a party Nov. 5 at historic Castle Green to celebrate 120 years of bringing help and hope to vulnerable and at risk residents of Pasadena and greater San Gabriel Valley. The theme, "That's What Friends are For," describes the mission and spirit of this respected organization founded in 1894 at about the same time as the Rose Parade

To exemplify its role of caring put into action, Friends In Deed will honor the Rev. Inman Moore for his decades of loyal support and civil rights leadership, and the Rev. Georg Regas for his significant peace and justice work at home and nationally.
