Congresswoman Karen Bass, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights, released the following statement today in reaction to the announcement of President Barack Obama's nomination of Senator John Kerry to be Secretary of State.
"I congratulate Senator John Kerry on his selection to be the next Secretary of State. The Senator has a long history of dedication to our nation – from his military service to his leadership in the Senate. His many years of work on the Foreign Relations Committee make him an outstanding choice to be our nation's top diplomat. I know that Senator Kerry will continue to represent our country with distinction and I look forward to working with him to continue to elevate the status of Africa within U.S.
foreign policy. I want to also extend my deep appreciation to Secretary of State Clinton for her extraordinary contributions to our nation. Her steady leadership has strengthened America's position globally and re-established diplomacy as an essential component to U.S. global leadership."
