Rep. Bass Statement on Republican Vote to Repeal Healthcare Reform

(Washington DC) – Today, Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the GOP House vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act for the 37th time in 41 months without a single vote on a jobs bill:

"The Republican controlled House today capped off probably one of the least productive weeks in the history of the House of Representatives by voting for the 37th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act even though they know this legislation will go nowhere in the Senate or with the White House. After wasting the American people's time all week with political theatre instead of passing a budget and creating jobs, the GOP today decided to waste the American people's money too with another vote to repeal healthcare reform. From the start of this Congress, Republicans have failed to pass a single jobs bill that can become law, while refusing to appoint conferees to enact a budget that's fair and responsibly reduces the deficit. The American people are surely growing weary with this constant desire to place politics above doing what's right."

Rep. Bass Statement On Attorney General Eric Holder's Testimony Before House Judiciary Committee

(Washington DC) – Today, Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA), member of the House Judiciary Committee released the following statement after Attorney General Eric Holder's testimony on Capitol Hill:

"I commend the Attorney General for coming before Congress in an effort to provide clarity on a number of issues the American people have questions about. What is clear is that the IRS overreached by inappropriately targeting organizations based on their political affiliations and that we must get all the facts out concerning the hacking of reporter phone records. But what is less clear and most concerning to me, is whether or not Congress will rise to the challenge of not letting politics corrupt the quest for answers and accountability in both of these matters. Before today, Republicans were already beating their resignation drum for the Attorney General before the facts had come out. The American people deserve better and time will tell if this Congress can put politics aside to act in the best interests of the American people instead of the next election."
