The Pasadena Unified School opened as planned with in-person learning on August 12, 2021. In an early adoption of new state law, PUSD middle and high schools starts school a day later. Middle schools will start at 8:15 a.m. and high schools at 8:30 a.m. Elementary schools will return to pre-pandemic sched-ules of 7:50 or 8:45 a.m., depending on the school. In a Message from Superintendent Brian McDonald, he expressed his excitement and enthusiasm of the students, teachers, and parents as the District welcomed an estimated 14,500 students back to in-person learning. The main focus was the safety of the students and staff. Safety protocols were put in place with regard to masks, ventilation, hand sanitizers, and testing. Through their Medical Point of Dispensing (MPOD) at the Education Center Students and staff as well as the community received were inoculated. An estimated 96% of the employees are vaccinated and they continue to urge the community to get vaccinated. COVID-19 vaccines are now available for everyone 12 years and older. Make sure your mask covers your mouth, nose, and chin! • Based on CDPH recommendation, PUSD is requiring that masks be worn during outdoor school events/activities when 3 feet of distance cannot be maintained at all times. • Staff, Teachers, Parents and children are asked to self-screen before leaving home. • Stay home if you’re sick. o Before leaving home all students, employees, and parents must conduct a self-check. Ask yourself these questions: Do I have a fever? Do I have a cough? Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing? Am I experiencing any other symptoms? Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days? In the last two weeks, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test? o If you respond "yes" to any of the questions, you must stay home and contact your school or office. It is recommended that you contact your primary care physician for further medical advice. If you have a fever with cough or shortness of breath, you are urged to contact your primary care physician as these symptoms may be attributed to COVID-19. o Upon arrival at school, school staff will perform a brief check-in to verify that students have completed a symptom screening. Pasadena Unified School District is participating in a Free Breakfast and Lunch Program for the current school year 2021-2022. This alternative is referred to as the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). All students enrolled at the District may participate in the breakfast and lunch program at no charge. Household applications for free and reduced price meals will not be collected. The school breakfast and lunch that we serve follows U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. The Free Breakfast and Lunch Program cannot succeed without your support. Please encourage your children to participate in the school meal programs.
