Jesus said that in certain times, there would be days like the days of Noah and days like the days of Lot. Even though both went through a terrible storm, Noah had much more time to prepare than Lot had. Sometimes we have plenty of time to prepare, sometimes we do not. As we currently find ourselves in the midst of several storms, with perhaps even more storms to come, I would like to offer some general advice along with some professional advice.
First, the general advice. As you endure the storms you may be in and even when the storm has passed, you should let go of the things you lost as soon as you can. Be thankful every day for the loved ones in your life and for the things that you still have. My professional advice is that you should have an estate plan which addresses your wealth and your health during and after the storms of life – a living trust (or a will in limited circumstances), a power of attorney and a medical directive. If you already have these legal documents, make sure to update them or change them whenever you need to – someone is born, someone passes away, someone moves away, or you just simply change your mind about some things in your existing estate plan. Better to be blessed by being prepared before the storm comes, so you can be a blessing to those who you care about. © 2020 by Marlene S. Cooper. All rights reserved.
