It may not be the Indianapolis 500; but this Memorial Day Weekend toy rubber ducks will be squeaking all over Kidspace Children's Museum in anticipation of winning at the First Annual "Red, White & Blue Rubber Ducky Race."
During all three days of Memorial Day Weekend, rubber ducks will careen down the Museum's Interpretive Arroyo on an hourly basis trying to position themselves to be the first to cross the finish line, obtain that elusive checkered flag and get the bragging rights to being the fastest rubber duck around. Races start at 11:00 am daily and run hourly until 3:00 p.m.
"This is the first big weekend of summer and we want the kids to start their summer vacations by having a great time; however, we still want them to use their imaginations," said Valerie Oguss, Director of Education at Kidspace. "We hope the kids will decorate their rubber ducks so that in addition to having the fastest duck on the water, they also have the most creative and interesting."
The toy rubber ducks are available for purchase from the Kidspace Busy Bee Learning Store and free patriotic decorations are available at the Museum to anyone wanting to "soup-up" their duck before race time.
In addition to the Rubber Ducky Race, Kidspace has a full weekend of activities planned for Memorial Day. On Saturday, May 29 at 1:00 pm, Grammy-nominated singer Zak Morgan will spark his own brand of imagination as he performs songs from his CD, "When Bullfrogs Croak and Bloom." There will also be:
