The 11th Annual Caltech Jazz Festival is going to be another seminal event in the Caltech Jazz Band’s offerings to the public this year.
It will take place on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gates Patio on the Caltech campus.
The beautiful venue, with lawn seating, will also have plenty of space for families to bring blankets and picnic baskets to stretch out and enjoy the sounds of the Caltech Jazz Bands and their special guest artists.
Headlining this year will be the Chuck Manning Quartet. Chuck Manning is one of Los Angeles’ finest and busiest musicians. He recently returned from a tour of Europe to promote his recent CD “Notes from the Real”. He is a member of the Los Angeles Jazz Quartet and has performed with Charlie Haden, Loe Lovano, Hubert Laws, Warne Marsh, Bill Cunliffe, Ravi Coltrane and many others.
The Caltech Chamber Jazz and Jam Ensemble will feature special guest Irving Zucky Zeidner, Les Deutsch, and Caltech Faculty Member Julia Miwa. The Caltech Jazz Bands have performed for thousands of people over the last thirty years. They have recorded at Capitol Records and performed with jazz greats associated with everyone from the Duke Ellington and Count Basie Orchestra to Poncho Sanchez and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The event is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the concert will be rescheduled for a later date.
