Title:
Special Black History Month Meeting: The Battle for Crenshaw High School
When:
Feb.21.2013 06.00PM
Category:
General

Description

Freed slaves founded the first U.S. public education system. Crenshaw High is part of that legacy and was born out of the Civil Rights Movement.  Now, L.A. Unified School District wants to dismantle this beacon of pride and then privatize it.

LAUSD has forced staff to re-apply for their jobs, has left six classrooms without a permanent teacher and starves the school of urgently needed resources.

Outraged parents, students, teachers and community members have been organizing to demand a stop to these racist and union-busting tactics.

Hear from a panel of parents, students and educators from the Crenshaw Cougar Coalition at 7:00 p.m. who are part of this important fight. Open mic discussion will follow on how to stop the assault on public schools.

A savory home-cooked supper, with a vegetarian option, will be served at 6:00 p.m. for an $8.00 donation.

This gathering, sponsored by Radical Women, will be held Thursday, February 21 at Solidarity Hall, located at 2122 W. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles (off the 10 Freeway at Arlington, on bus lines #38, 209).
