In recognition of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, volunteers from the Los Angeles Church of Christ & HOPE Worldwide Southern California joined forces this past Saturday with the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena and the Jack & Jill of America Foundation for a unique Done-In-A-Day volunteer project. More than 220 men, women and children from the church visited the Clubs' Slavik and Mackenzie-Scott branches to assist with some much needed early spring-cleaning that including painting, gardening, and maintenance of the Club's facilities.
"It was a true testament to see our community coming together in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service," said Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena President and CEO Rachel Estrada.
Volunteers not only painted doors and railings and helped plant new trees, they also applied some of their special talents, including illustrating and painting a mural for the Slavik branch lobby, located at 3230 East Del Mar Boulevard. The colorful mural reflects the three core components of the Boys & Girls Club mission: character and leadership development, healthy lifestyles, and promoting education.
