Pasadena YouthBuild

Black news from Pasadena - Community News - Pasadena YouthBuild graduatesPasadena YouthBuild proudly announced its first program graduates at its recent graduation ceremonies held at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

All eight graduates are continuing their education in local community colleges.

YouthBuild is a nationwide program for students, ages 16-25, who have dropped out of high school and provides opportunities for students to complete their high school diplomas, receive counseling, job training, leadership instruction and participate in community volunteerism. The program had 30 youths enrolled in its first year.

"Our students stepped up to the challenge and worked hard to earn their high school diplomas," said Director Sheryl Turner. "We are extremely proud that we have a 100 percent rate of graduates going on to community college higher education programs."

Pasadena YouthBuild is the only YouthBuild program in the Pasadena, Monrovia, Altadena area. Students are referred from local school districts, the judicial system, and social service agencies.
