Pasadena Councilmember John Kennedy Community Swearing-In Ceremony

African American news from Pasadena - Community News - Pasadena Councilmember John Kennedy sworn inOn Sunday, May 19, 2013, in a ceremony fit for a leader, the community came out in mass to fill the Pasadena Central Library Auditorium. The event, attended by Pasadena residents, community leaders and politicians, past and present, including three past Mayors of Pasadena, including William Paparian, past Pasadena Police Chief, Jerry Oliver, current Pasadena Police Chief Philip Sanchez, Pasadena Fire Chief, Calvin Wells, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, fellow Pasadena city councilmembers and newly appointed Pasadena Vice Mayor, Jacque Robinson, and dozens more Pasadenans and out of town guests who came to support and participate in this historic event.

The event marked the changing of the guard and crowning of new leadership for the community of African Americans, in particular. John Kennedy, who was born and raised in Pasadena, wore a pin with the number '42' on it, symbolizing another luminary who was born and raised in Pasadena, Jackie Robinson.

Like Jackie, great things are expected of John, and he promised not to disappoint his supporters and the residents of his district.

He was sworn in by Congresswoman Judy Chu with a bible being held by one of his nine siblings.

He named as his field deputies, Ms. Jana West and Mr. Christopher Cruz. The event was organized by Lena Kennedy of L. Kennedy and Associates.

Councilman Kennedy was officially sworn in on May 6th in City Hall Chambers.
