Fifth Annual 50 Fabulous Women

Black news from Pasadena - News - THE Magazine's Annual 50 Fabulous Women 2013STEVE TOBIA and THE MAGAZINE Sponsored it's fifth annual 50 Fabulous Women on June 4th at the Pasadena Museum of History.

This year's honorees, as in the past included 50 women achievers from the Pasadena Foothills area. Tobia is to be complimented for choosing and highlighting a group of women whose individual and combined stories tells of women from all walks of life. There is a virtual gathering of giants from the worlds of business, law, publishing, politics and leadership, in general.

The Museum of History was a particularly appropriate setting for this year's event with its' theme, "Celebrating Women Throughout The Years."

Included in the book were historical contributions of Dr. Edna Griffin (1905- 1992), Pasadena's first African American female doctor, and Loretta Glickman (1945 – 2001), the first African American woman elected to the Pasadena City Council and the first African American woman to serve as mayor of the city.

This years group of 50 Fabulous Women included Journal Publisher and co-founder, Ruthie Hopkins. Also included were Beverly Bogar, Supervisor to Chief of Police, Pasadena Police Department; Phlunte Riddle, Pasadena Police Department administrator, consultant and retired Police Department executive; Beverly White, NBC4 Television Broadcast Journalist; Pamela Mims, Business Consultant; Phyllis E. Currie, General Manager of the Pasadena Department of Water and Power; and Yolonda Mitchell Brown, Talkshow producer. Other notables honored were Congresswoman Judy Chu, pioneer legal educator and Federal Judge, Dorothy Nelson.
