. . . "Building Hometown Legacies"
Pasadena, CA (August 12, 2013) – On Saturday, October 5th at 5:30 p.m., the Pasadena Community Foundation kicks off its 60th anniversary gala, "Building Hometown Legacies," with festivities to honor and celebrate its heritage of philanthropic funding Pasadena's non profits. The gala event will be held at The Langham Huntington, 1401 S. Oak Knoll Avenue in Pasadena with cocktails, hor d'oevres, a three-course seated dinner and a live auction for five unique gifts to raise money for PCF's endowment fund. The Young Men's Ensemble of the Los Angeles Children's' Chorus will perform at the event and "Mount Wilson Patrons" who purchase a table of ten, will receive a permanently-named endowment in their honor and area of interest.
"The name of our event, 'Building Hometown Legacies,' refers to our core mission," states PCF Executive Director Jennifer DeVoll, who notes that they expect to sell-out the 600 seat event. "This is PCF's first ticketed event in our 60 year history. We want to raise awareness of our unique role in the community, in that we are the only foundation whose purpose is to serve Pasadena as a whole, exclusively."
In addition to the funding raised by the ticket sales, the special auction will feature exclusive gifts including a private ride in a police helicopter, a one week trip to the premiere spa Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico, and a guest conductor role for a Pasadena Pops performance of the 'Star Spangled Banner' at the L.A. Arboretum.
At the event, PCF's six distinguished ambassadors will speak about the areas of interest they represent for the Foundation's funding of grants. Representing Arts & Culture are Ambassadors Bob and Faye Davidson; Educational Ambassadors Mike and Guil Babcock; Environmental Ambassadors Kicker and Betty McKenney, Health Ambassador Dr.Benjamin Chu ; Human Services Ambassador Richard Frank, the and Youth Ambassador, former State Senator and Assemblyman Jack Scott. Each will speak about the importance of philanthropic supports in their chosen areas.
"Since our founding in by philanthropist Louis Webb in 1953, the Pasadena Community Foundation has helped Pasadena's non profits in a way no other foundation can," recalls Ms. DeVoll. "We are unique in the way we collaborate with donors and organizations to strengthen and further local philanthropy. For example, we work with many families set up charitable funds that pay tribute to their loved ones, such as a Scholarship fund or a Memorial Fund.
"Another way we help local organizations is through our Agency Partner Program where we invest and manage their endowments. One example is the Foundation's partnership with the City's $1.8 million Pasadena Assistance Fund. This is a charitable endowment fund that supplements community development block grants (CDBG) that the City awards to local non profits in the Human Services area. The Pasadena Assistance Fund is invested with the foundation's portfolio which generates grant funds for the community.
"Additionally, PCF collaborates with individuals and families by working with their financial advisors to create a Legacy, a Planned Gift that honors their memory after they pass on. Our primary purpose is in helping people who want to give back to the community where they were born or lived, raised their family, or worked. That's our core mission and the theme of our gala, 'Building Hometown Legacies.' "
